5+ hour delay to get the Air Conditioner fixed

Here we are near the end of our 4th day out. We have driven from St. Catharines to Amana, Iowa which is a distance of about 770 miles.

Day 1 was a delayed start. Although Bill got up at 4:30 am to insure we could leave as scheduled, we had to stop in Hamilton for a quick recharge of our air conditioner. The 11 am appointment meant very little as we didn’t even get in until 2 pm. After they decided they could not fix it as thought, we left about 4:30 pm with an ok fix. Unfortunately, we had a 267 mile trip ahead of us that day. Arriving at our campground (Walnut Hills Family Campground just west of Flint, Michigan) about 11:30 pm, we woke up the camp hosts (This was at the suggestion of the reservation clerk). The host very graciously escorted us to our site. Needless to say, we slept in the next day and didn’t get away until about 10:30 am.

Sept. 2 was day 2. A drive of 291 miles through rain, construction and a wrong turn leading to extra miles…However, Leisure Lake RV Resort near Joliet, Illinois was lovely. We enjoyed a quiet evening and were able to get on line and even phone our kids. (I miss them already!!!)

Day 3 and 4 we spent at Amana Colonies RV Park in Amana, Iowa. This was 215 miles from the previous stop.  Enroute, we ate breakfast at a Cracker Barrel to see if it was as RV friendly as they claim. (It was)  We also had the TV working as Bill drove so I could watch Y & R. (No he could not see or hear it!!!) There was a huge dog show going on at the park. MANY different dogs, all sizes. Some kinds I’ve never seen before. One family had 36 Pomeranians all staying in their RV with them!!!! I can’t even imagine. They each have their own cage. We went over and watched 1 competition. Lots of primping and preening!!! But as far as we are concerned, Sunny is still the best dog here.

Today we explored the historical Amana Colonies. They are very interesting and educational; similar in concept to the Shaker Communities.

Well, guess that’s about it for now. Tomorrow we set off for a campground near Des Moines, Iowa a shorter trip of only 110 miles. TTYL

The campsite at Amana Colonies in Iowa (where we were staying) was host for the dog show. Dog show people are quite different, I might add!!!!! There were thousands of dogs there. I suspect that the weekend provided a situation for the Guinness people in the category “Most dog doodoo at one place”.
