Week 1 – Part 2
Hi again everyone. Here we are on day 9 of our travels.
Most of days 5, 6, 7 and 8 were spent on the road. The country side changed daily from hilly to flat as we moved from Iowa into South Dakota and the crops changed from corn to grassland. The weather was sunny most of the time but the winds picked up making Bill’s driving more challenging; especially in conjunction with highway construction which seems to be everywhere.
We spent one night at an ownership park called Cutty’s near Des Moines, Iowa which had about 700 sites. It was ok but rather crowded. We plan to stay there again on the way home.
On day 6 we travelled into South Dakota and stopped for the night at Red Barn RV Park in a tiny town called Tea, SD just south of Sioux Falls. We had planned to go into the city but bad weather nixed that idea.
Day 7 found us at the R and R Campground in Mitchell, SD home of the Corn Palace which we had visited with the family on our previous trip about 20 years ago. The Corn Palace has been decorated with murals made from different coloured corn every year since 1892… Quite amazing!
Day 8 (Sept 8th) we drove about 215 miles to Badlands Ranch and RV Park near Interior, SD (population 67). This is a rather out of the way place down a long very bumpy gravel road. The ads for this place are far superior to the reality… Oh well, we’re here now and it will do. We are staying here again tonight (day 9). On the way in yesterday, we drove through part of Badlands National Park. The landforms are amazing and so unique.
Unfortunately, that long bumpy road caused the frame on our tow vehicle to break AGAIN. Boohoo… So we have to drive in tandem tomorrow; about 90 miles to Rapid City where there is a good (hopefully) welder who can fix it!!!! I really do not want to drive all the way home!!!
Today we drove the rest of the Badlands Loop Road and went into Wall Drug Store. It made for a nice day and lots of cool pictures.
Check them out.
Anyway, folks, wish us well tomorrow. We plan to stay in Three Flags RV Park near the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore for the 4 nights.
Talk to you later. Please leave a post reply so we can see if this works. Thanks.

Except for the mechanical things to attend to now and then, it looks like you guys are having a great trip. Thanks for your notes and pictures.
Glad to see that you are experiencing so many historical sites, and that your sights are set on seeing them.
Love to hear and see what you are doing. we have just returned from 4 days camping at the wild and wonderful ‘BRONTE CREEK PROVINCIAL PARK’ Woo woo. And with the Pridmores in their new Titanium. We had wonderful weather and are happy to see that the rain held off until this morning. It is a typical rainy September day here.
We are headed out for the weekend to move my Mom out of her house. It was sold the 2 weeks ago and the closing date is October 1st. It will be a very emotional time for her. Keep us in your thoughts.
Well, Have fun guys and see you at the ‘WEDDING’
